  • Pledge

    St. John Vianney School is situated at Purani Chhawni, Gwalior is run under the auspices of The Catholic Diocese of Gwalior. It is a private, un-aided, minority school. Ours is a co-educational institution, primarily started for the Catholic children of Gwalior. Our school considers it as a duty to respect all the religious beliefs of all our fellow citizens. We admit every child without any consideration of caste, creed, language and status. We lay importance to value education for every student and pay special attention to the formation of character with sound moral principles. We at SJVS, aim at the overall personality development of students that will enable them to become worthy citizens of our great Nation. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi and under the Regional Office at Bhopal. The school has a dedicated set of staff members who endeavour to form the best students in terms of knowledge and creative thinking. We provide the schooling from class Nursery to Class XII. Students can choose after class different streams, i.e., Science (PCM/PCB), Commerce, Humanities with a choice of Physical Education or Computer. The stress is given for the physical, socio-cultural development by participation in various competitions held in the school as well outside. The school band and the NCC are something we can proud of, and students actively participate in them.

  • National Anthem

    The song Jana-gana-mana, composed originally in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore, was adopted in its Hindi version by the Constituent Assembly the national anthem of India on 24 January 1950. It was first sung on 27 December, 1911 at the Calcutta Session of the India National Congress. The complete song consists of five stanzas. The first stanza contains the full version of the National Anthem.

    Bharata-bhagya-vidhata.
    Punjab-Sindh-Gujrat-Maratha
    Dravida-Utkala-Banga
    Vindhya-Himachala-Yamuna-Ganga

    Playing time of the full version of the national anthem is approximately 52 seconds. A short version consisting of first and last lines of the stanza (playing time approximately 20 seconds) is also played on certain occasions. The following is Tagore's English rendering of the anthem.

    Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people, dispenser of India's destiny. Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha, of the Dravida and Orissa and Bengal; It echoes in the hills of the Vindyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Jamuna and Ganges and is chanted by the waves of the Indian sea. They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise. The saving of all people waits in thy hand, thou dispenser of India's destiny. Victory, victory, victory to thee.

  • The Indian National Song Vande Matram

    The song Vande Matram, composed in Sanskrit by Bankim Chandra Chatterji, was a source of inspiration to the people in their struggle for freedom. The first political occasion when it was sung was the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress. The song first appeared in his book 'Anandmatha', published in 1882 amid fears of a ban by the British Raj, though the song itself was actually written six years prior in 1876.

    The English translation of the stanza rendered by Sri Aurobindo in prose is I bow to thee, Mother

    her lands clothed beautifully with her trees in flowering blomm,
    sweet of laughter, sweet of speech,
